This raspberry chocolate avocado smoothie gives a big nutritional punch. It is a good source of various B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, fiber, magnesium, potassium, copper, selenium, zinc, iron, manganese, and calcium. It is also a great source of phytochemicals and antioxidants.
If taken the first thing in the morning, this smoothie will give you a great nutritional start to your day. Depending on the strength of your blender and how long you blend it for, you may notice little bits of raspberry seeds and date pieces when drinking. The dates in this smoothie add just a touch of sweetness. Here is the recipe:
- ½ of a medium avocado – pitted
- 1 cup of fresh or frozen raspberries
- 10 oz. of dark chocolate
- 4 dates
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- Place all the ingredients into your blender of choice and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and drink immediately.
I like using my NutriBullet blender when making all my smoothies because it is always handy on my counter and clean-up is quick. I have talked before about my NutriBullet in another blog post. The thing that I like best about it is that I just quickly rinse the cup and blades under the kitchen tap and it’s ready to be used again.
Just a note on raspberries:
In many supermarkets in Canada, raspberries are quite expensive to buy. The reason is because of the raspberries very short shelf life. If you have a small garden, think about adding a few raspberry bushes to your garden. The kind that I recommend are called everbearing raspberry bushes. They start producing raspberries in July and keep on producing copious amounts of berries until October. I currently have 4 raspberry bushes in my raised bed garden. I keep them contained with a trellis so that the branches don’t hang down (makes for easy picking). I freeze the excess berries. These frozen berries are used in many of my smoothie recipes and the frozen berries generally last me the whole winter season. If you have your own raspberry bushes, you have the ability to make your own raspberry tea. Raspberry tea provides many health benefits. The health benefits of raspberries and raspberry tea will be discussed in detail in a future blog post.
