Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey

Both Apple cider vinegar and honey are staples in my house. Especially the apple cider vinegar which has been shown to have a multitude of health effects. I personally prefer using Bragg apple cider vinegar because I can see the ‘mother of vinegar’ (the pulp settled in the bottom) and I know that this vinegar has been unprocessed.

What are the health benefits of mixing apple cider vinegar and honey together in a drink? By mixing the two together with a cup of warm water and drinking this mixture, you can experience the following benefits:

  • Better joint health and joint pain alleviation (this mixture has assisted in reducing my arthritic knee joint pain)
  • Reducing overall inflammation
  • Helps to reduce cholesterol levels and lowers blood pressure
  • Relief from sore throat
  • Acid reflux and heartburn relief

  • Can assist in weight loss
  • Feeling more energy
  • Assists in maintaining a youthful appearance and better condition of the skin

The benefits of drinking one large mug of this apple cider vinegar and honey mixture daily can be explained by looking at their chemical properties and interactions with the body. When we are ill, our bodies become overly acidic (pH below 7). Now, vinegar is naturally acidic, but when it is consumed, it turns alkaline. Honey, too, has a low pH, but when it is consumed, it raises the alkalinity of the body.

The combination of apple cider vinegar and honey are a perfect way to get rid of any excessive acidity in a person’s body.  Excessive acidity is a result of stressful lifestyles and consumption of unhealthy food. This apple cider vinegar and honey drink builds a healthier internal body environment with a protective slightly alkaline pH. Our bodies function at their best and healthiest when the body’s pH is approximately 7.4.

Recipe for Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey Drink

Mix together:

  • 2 teaspoon raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 ½ cup of warm (not boiling hot) water (approximately 1 large coffee mug full)

The taste of this drink was something that I had to get used to at first but now I actually like the taste. I drink this first thing in the morning as I prepare my own breakfast and run around feeding all the animals in my house. Yes, I do drink this every day.

Before I wrap up todays blog post, a word of caution:

If you are on any prescriptions such as medications for diabetes or heart disease, please consult with your pharmacist before starting to consume this drink. The apple cider vinegar may interact with certain prescription medications. Once your pharmacist has given you the go-ahead, try this apple cider vinegar and honey drink for yourself. Drink it once a day and discover what benefits it may bring you.

One small tip:

If you are at all concerned that the acid in the apple cider vinegar may harm the enamel in your teeth, drink the apple cider vinegar and honey drink through a straw. There is a minimum amount of exposure to your teeth that way.
